Funding Opportunities

Need funding support to help make your magnet time a reality? The MagLab offers several funding opportunities to assist with dependent care, travel and other expenses.

Dependent Care Travel Grant Program

Subject to the availability of funding, the Magnet Lab offers small grants for qualified, short-term dependent care expenses.

For:
Early-career scientists
Support Level:
Up to $800 per calendar year
To Apply:
Discuss your request with the applicable facility director. There is no deadline.

First-Time User Support

MagLab facilities are generally available to users without cost. To encourage new research activities, first-time principal investigators (PI) who have been approved and scheduled for magnet time may request modest support for travel expenses (available for Tallahassee facilities only).

For:
First-time principal investigators with approved and scheduled magnet time
Support Level:
$1,000 for international users; $500 for domestic principal investigators
To Apply:
Discuss your request with the applicable facility director. A request form will then be shared. There is no deadline.

Visiting Scientist Program

This program provides greater access to our facilities and seeds research programs that advance the laboratory. Funding is principally to support travel and local expenses. Requests for stipends are considered but given a lower priority.

Support Level:
$500 - $5,000; more under special circumstances

User Collaboration Grants Program (UCGP)

The UCGP program seeks to achieve the lab's research objectives through funded research projects of one to two years duration in the following categories:

  • small, seeded collaborations between internal and/or external investigators that utilize their complementary expertise
  • bold but risky efforts which hold significant potential to extend the range and type of experiments
  • initial seed support for new faculty and research staff, targeted to magnet laboratory enhancements

Support Level:
Any two-year budget over $200k will need to be especially justified
