User Safety

Safety is a core value at the MagLab and users must complete safety training before working. To find out which trainings are required for you, consult with the appropriate facility director or contact safety.

Prior to conducting research at the MagLab, user safety training is required. These online training modules are assigned based on a users’ experiment and the unique hazards associated within the facility or experimental space in which a user will be working.

User training is assigned several weeks prior to a users’ arrival and is required to receive badge access to the lab space and authorization to begin work. Badges must be worn by all users when working in the laboratory.

While working within each MagLab facility, users are assigned an in-house user support scientist and support technician to ensure both technical and safety needs are met. Users may receive additional hands-on training from their user support scientist, technicians or the safety department. Non-routine and any particularly hazardous activities will be completed by trained and experienced facility technicians to minimize risks to users.

If you are uncertain as to which trainings are required, consult with your facility director.

If injured while conducting research here at the lab, user injuries should be reported to the NHMFL Safety Department at 855-SAFEMAG or, safety at magnet dot fsu dot edu. In the event of an emergency, you should call 911.
