7 Tesla Quantum Design MPMS XL Superconducting Magnet (SCM5)

7 Tesla Quantum Design MPMS XL Superconducting Magnet

This is a standard Quantum Design Magnetic Property Measurement System (MPMSXL).

Its main function is for DC and AC magnetization measurements and its purpose is to act as an onramp to characterize materials before accessing higher magnetic fields in the DC Field Facility. We particularly target researchers who do not have access to comparable equipment at their home institution.

Details

Specs

  • Maximum Field: 7 tesla
  • Sample space: 7 mm
  • Homogeneity: 1000 pmm
  • Number of input and output leads possible: 16
  • Frequency: 0-100 kHz
  • Temperature Range: 1.8 – 350 K
  • Open for users who would pay for magnet time: Yes

  • DC and AC magnetization: The SQUID can be operated by performing DC scans or in a reciprocating (i.e. AC) mode where the relative sensitivity possible is ~ 10E-8 emu.

  • Rough vacuum: The sample chamber of the SQUID is pumped and purged which leaves a small amount of He-4 gas to regulate the temperature of the sample.
