Superconducting Magnets

Our superconducting magnets, with a maximum sweep rate of 0.66 tesla/minute and experimental temperatures as low as 0.02 degrees K, support the following research: Magneto-optics (ultra-violet through far infrared), magnetization, specific heat, transport, high pressure, low to medium resolution NMR, dependence of optical and transport properties on field orientation and more.

18/20 Tesla Superconducting Magnet, with Dilution Refrigerator (SCM1)

A top-loading dilution refrigerator is permanently installed in this magnet. It has a base temperature of 20 mk and 400 microwatts of cooling power at 100 mK.

18/20 Tesla General Purpose Superconducting Magnet (SCM2)

The SCM2 is a general purpose superconducting magnet with Variable Temperature Insert (VTI) and a 3He Insert. The operating temperature range for the VTI is 1.4 K to 300 K and from 250 mK to 70 K for the 3He Insert.

17 Tesla Superconducting Magnet for Optics (SCM3)

This magnet is dedicated for optics research. SCM3 is a cold bore system capable of measurements from 4 K to 300 K.

7 Tesla Quantum Design MPMS XL Superconducting Magnet (SCM5)

This is a standard Quantum Design Magnetic Property Measurement System (MPMSXL).

9 Tesla Quantum Design PPMS Superconducting Magnet (SCM6)

This is a standard Quantum Design Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS).

32 Tesla Superconducting Magnet (SCM-32T)

The 32 T magnet is the first in a new class of high-field superconducting magnets employing HTS materials.
