As part of a major faculty hiring initiative, the Department of Physics at the University of Florida (UF) seeks a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Low Temperature Physics to begin in August 2018. The successful candidate will join a five-person faculty team who oversee and manage the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory’s High B/T Facility at UF, and will demonstrate a capability and desire to establish a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship between his/her personal research program and the National MagLab. The new faculty member will be part of a larger condensed matter physics group that includes studies of phenomena in high magnetic fields, device physics, non-linear processes, interdisciplinary nanoscience and technology, and modern materials physics.

In addition to the resources associated with the High B/T facility, the candidate will have access to the department’s machine, electronics, and cryogenic liquid shops. Modern laboratory space and competitive start-up funds will be provided. Facilities for micro/nano-fabrication and characterization are available at the nearby Research Service Centers in the UF Nanoscale Institute. Strong research opportunities exist for collaboration with faculty in other UF departments.

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent), and postdoctoral research experience in low temperature technologies including the use of dilution refrigerators and studies of materials in high magnetic fields. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body, while establishing a well-recognized research program, is essential. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.
