Title: Anomalous Hall Effect in Ferromagnetic Weyl Semimetals
Host: Luis Balicas
Location: MagLab B-101 at 3:00 PM-4:00 PM
Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss two types of Anomalous Hall Effect (AHE) in ferromagnetic Weyls Semimetals (FM WSM). First, I present a new transport phenomenon entitled the Loop Hall Effect (LHE) that we have recently observed in a FM WSM with both broken inversion and broken time-reversal symmetries. The magnitude of the LHE is directly connected to the separation between the Weyl nodes in momentum space – an effect that has been theoretically known for a while but without convincing experimental proof. Second, I will explore the extrinsic AHE in FM WSMs and demonstrate the first observation of a transition from extrinsic to intrinsic AHE in a family of FM WSMs. The role of extrinsic contributions to the AHE has been underestimated in Weyl semimetals because most studies of AHE has been focused on a single compound. I will show that by tuning the Fermi surface in a series of FM WSMs, one can tune the Femi surface without changing the nodal structure. As a result, one can separate the extrinsic and intrinsic contributions via a scaling analysis of the transverse and longitudinal conductivities.
