Hughes Invited to participate in NASEM Action Collaborative on Science Education

Dr. Hughes’ participation in NASEM Action Collaborative on Science Education project demonstrates her expertise on the national level.

What is the finding

Dr. Roxanne Hughes, Director of the Center for Integrating Research and Learning is participating with colleagues from Florida State University (FSU) in a three-year Action Collaborative with the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine. The Collaborative for Advancing Science Teaching and Learning in K-12 (CASTL-K122) is a three-year program that brings together science education stakeholders at the national and state levels will develop evidence-based policies and practices for implementing and supporting state-level science standards, based on the National Research Council’s 2012 report, A Framework for K-12 Science Education.


Why is this important?

The goals of CASTL-K!2 are to:

  • develop a coherent strategy for supporting implementation of science standards across states and districts,
  • launch and coordinate a networked community of practice for stakeholders at all levels and across sectors,
  • build on and share existing evidence-based policies, tools, and examples, and
  • develop a coherent communication and engagement strategy for advancing K-12 science and engineering education broadly.
