Provide assistance and maintenance for all types of networked servers, workstations, desktop and notebook computers, tablets and mobile devices running various versions of Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS X, Linux, Apple iOS and Google Android. Works directly with MagLab administration, staff and affiliates, visiting scientists and University IT personnel to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems, including remediation for computers infected with viruses and malware. Set up and install various makes and models of networked servers, workstations, desktop and laptop computers running different versions of Microsoft Windows. Maintain Windows operating system imaging server for common desktop and laptop computers. Install and maintain networked printers, network switches, wireless routers and data network cabling, including termination and compliance testing. Create and administer user accounts for Microsoft Windows Active Directory and Zimbra email services. Provide end user instruction in the use of various computer, tablet and mobile device operating systems and software applications, audio-visual equipment and video-conferencing systems. Assist staff with computer hardware and software purchasing decisions and provide quotes.
A high school diploma or equivalency and two years appropriate experience. Knowledge of personal computer hardware and software products. Highly skilled in the installation and maintenance of personal computers. Ability to troubleshoot personal computer hardware and software problems. Ability to set up personal computers with productivity and networking software. Ability to communicate with users at all levels of computer literacy. Experience in repairing personal computer hardware. Experience in securing personal computers against viruses. Ability to troubleshoot data network cabling problems and install new data network cabling.
