Responsibilities

Operate and maintain facility equipment and systems in support of the MagLab’s DC high magnetic field user program. Interact with and assist users, research faculty, technicians and other MagLab staff on the operation and maintenance of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and safely operate facility equipment and Coordinate with the City of Tallahassee’s Electrical Distribution Control Room with regards to facility operations and power levels.
  • Take the proper corrective actions in response to alarms or other indications of abnormal equipment operation. Exercise skilled independent judgement in handling facility operations as well as unexpected or emergency situations.
  • Participate in on-call
  • Perform engineering functions on the MagLab Distributed Control System (DCS) such as graphic, trend group and control group building, logic development and troubleshooting, field device integration.
  • Use knowledge of the DCS to perform troubleshooting between the DCS and field
  • Coordinate, prepare and issue Lock, Tag, Verify procedures for facility maintenance, troubleshooting and repair in accordance with MagLab safety policies and procedures. Work with other MagLab personnel in the evaluation and development of safety policies and procedures.
  • Take a proactive attitude and make solution-oriented contributions to the MagLab safety
  • Assist Facility engineers, staff and scientists with the development of preventative maintenance programs and procedures. Assist Facility engineers and staff in tracking the performance and characteristics of the water-cooled magnets.
  • Contribute to equipment and system characterization, troubleshooting, repairs, maintenance, installation, integration and commissioning.
  • Provide training to users and staff on safe magnet operations, safe overhead crane operations and other safety procedures as necessary.
  • In consultation with supervisor(s) and design engineers, assist with determining changes in design and operation of plant and power equipment to improve operations, capabilities, reliability and uptime. Contribute to facility projects. Giving tours.

Qualifications

High school diploma/equivalent and four years of (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
