Technical Designer II-IV- Applied Superconductivity Center

Responsibilities:

Tasks of the successful candidate includes but are not limited to:

  • Carries out engineering tasks associated with magnet research and development, especially for high temperature superconductors and superconducting (HTS) magnets, their manufacture, thermal processing, and testing. Implements safety, quality assurance, and risk management practices associated with these tasks.
  • Develops unique methods and processes for technical tasks associated with HTS magnets and their related systems including regular furnace operations, maintenance, and controls. Integrates safety and quality into these methods or processes.
  • Selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria in developing and/or modifying engineering designs and systems. Prepares and evaluates plans and specifications of equipment according to best engineering practice. Provides technical leadership when working with research or scientific personnel on engineering design, concepts, and specifications.
  • Participates in outreach activities, public tours, and open house. Explains engineering activities to the public during outreach activities. Interacts with visitors from domestic and international laboratories and industries.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree and three years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and seven years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to seven years.)

Candidates with an additional three years of related experience will be considered for levels III- VI. Each level requires an additional three years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will have experience working with early-career researchers, students, and postdoctoral scholars.
