Responsibilities

This position contributes to the day-to-day machining, generation of complex mechanical designs, development and fabrication of laboratory equipment, tools, and other equipment required by users for utilization in the performance of research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate machine shop equipment (manual, CNC, wire EDM) to produce parts within precision tolerances following engineering drawings, sketches and verbal instruction.
  • Machine and assemble instrumentation, tools, and other
  • Advanced mechanical design, mechanical design assistance for stakeholders.
  • Work with a wide range of complex mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Problem solve and troubleshoot mechanical issues as needed.
  • Communication with various laboratory personnel with a wide range of technical experience.
  • Contribute to machine maintenance and upkeep, as well as documentation thereof.
  • Work with users and other lab personnel to safely use equipment and demonstrate techniques of machining simple tools, appliances, etc.
  • Contribute to maintaining and improving a hands-on equipment and safety training program for both shop and non-shop personnel.
  • Contribute to training researchers and staff on current state of the art design software and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree + 3 years of experience or a high school diploma or equivalent + 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience qualifies candidates for higher-level consideration (Ill-VI). Each level requires three additional years of experience.
