What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and the U.S. National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (National MagLab) are seeking a highly motivated and technically excellent postdoctoral researcher in experimental condensed matter physics focusing on high magnetic field science. Possible projects are

  1. Topological Kondo insulators, or topological insulators or Weyl metal systems,
  2. High-Tc superconductors,
  3. Two-dimensional materials,
  4. Spin liquids and frustrated magnetism,
  5. Strongly Correlated Electron Systems.

Research generally involves measurements of magnetic, electrical, thermodynamic and structural properties in DC and pulsed magnetic fields, taking advantage of the capabilities available at the Pulsed Field Facility (PFF). The position also provides opportunities for industrious candidates to pursue new collaborations, develop complementary techniques, and perform independent research within related topics.

The successful applicant will benefit not only from a highly interactive environment within our team but also from the close proximity of the Quantum Matter group (MPA-Q), the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (MPA-CINT), and the theoretical condensed matter group at Los Alamos. Qualifications We Require

Education: A Ph.D in experimental condensed matter physics or related field completed within the past 5 years.

Effective written and verbal communication skills as evinced by publications, presentations, cover letter, and references.

Extensive experience with cryogenics and/or high magnetic field measurements in magnetic materials.

Qualifications We Desire

Experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Magnetometry
  • Electrical transport measurements in extreme environments
  • Sample growth (e.g. flux growth) and characterization
  • High magnetic field experience (B> 30 T)
  • Background in topological materials, high-Tc superconductivity, strongly correlated electron systems
