Budget and Financial Analyst

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparing highly specialized and complex reports including the development of ad hoc reports. Prepare the MagLab budgetary reports for the Annual Report, monthly management reports, budget meetings, and other reports as requested. Develop specialized excel spreadsheets for departmental use. Document and process accounting entries for budget and project levels including the budget allocation. Monitor budget reports for the MagLab core budgets.
  • Assist in the preparation of Sponsored Research Award documents on assigned budgets for funding requests as directed by the Assistant Director. Ensure compliance with GAAP and other governmental or funding agent's laws and regulations by analyzing, verifying, and performing complex financial reconciliations.
  • Compile financial reports with reliable conclusions that management can use to implement effective operational strategies. Prepare financial documents to evaluate previous budgets, expenditures, variances, and spend down rates. Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports that provides past, current and projected financial status. Provide support by monitoring, researching, coordinating and responding to budget and audit requirements. Must be able to formulate budget allocations for the MagLab departments and the numerous projects within each Provide budget support in accordance with all regulatory guidance in developing budgets and tracking current status by funding source.
  • Analyze, process, and approve all types of budget requests. Review the payroll analysis quarterly to ensure the accuracy of the report. Process the OMNI Import to the internal budgeting system. Reconcile assigned budgets on a monthly basis to the FSU accounting system (OMNI) by tracing FSU ledger information and supporting documents.
  • Make recommendations to continuously improve budgeting systems efficiency and reliability by recommending, interpreting, and implementing fiscal and accounting administrative policies and procedures. Create and maintain desktop procedures for the Assist in the development of training documents for the Budget Management Department. Work with IT to ensure the financial integrity of BMS, monitor and implement system improvements. Develop SOL and an OMNI query as need is determined. Continue professional development on accounting, university procedures and/or relating to financial applications.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one year of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to five years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
