Measurements Techniques

Dozens of measurement techniques can be performed at the MagLab's seven user facilities, many at multiple facilities.

To learn more, follow the links below to find the measurement technique you are looking for. To find a specific magnet by measurement technique, use the magnet and measurement technique search.

Dielectric Measurements

  • At the High B/T Facility for experiments at fields up to 15 tesla and at temperatures down to 0.4 mK
  • At the Pulsed Field Facility for experiments at pulsed fields up to 100 tesla

Dilatometry

A capacitive dilatometer measures a change of sample dimension by monitoring the capacitance between two parallel plates.

Electrical Transport

The user can place small samples into an inductor (i.e., coil) of an LC tank circuit oscillating at a resonant frequency.

  • At the DC Field Facility for experiments at continuous fields up to 45 tesla
  • At the Pulsed Field Facility for experiments at pulsed fields up to 100 tesla
