TALLAHASSEE — Come celebrate the vibrant colors of fall at the MagLab Art Show this Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Ten outstanding women artists working in acrylic, watercolors and mixed-media will have some of their larger art pieces on display in the lab’s atrium. “This is probably going to be one of our best shows because when you go large, you go bold,” said Judith Nable, whose vivid collages will be among the work on display.
The show features the creative talents of Ten Artists, Ltd., a group of women artists who range in age from their late 50s to 95. They’ve been meeting as a group since the 1980s, Nable said. Some members have died or moved away, to be replaced by others. Nable joined in the 1990s.
“We learn a lot from each other, and we encourage each other,” she said. “We always keep the group to 10, though, because it’s just more manageable that way.”
The women meet once a month to critique each other’s latest pieces. “We get together and show our work and say, ‘I’m a little bit stumped by this, do you have any suggestions?’ or ‘Do you think I should go in this direction?’ or ‘Do you like this?’”
Come check out their work, meet some of these incredibly creative women, and enjoy snacks and soft drinks at the MagLab Art Show. If you miss the Friday premiere, though, you can see the show until Nov. 30. The lab's atrium is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
