Title: Persistent sample identification using SESAR
Location/Time: Virtual at 1 – 2:30 PM EST
Description: The IGSN (International Generic Sample Number) is a persistent and globally unique identifier used for tracking physical specimens and material samples. The IGSN is used primarily in the earth sciences and geochemistry, but its use is expanding to other fields such as archeology, biology, and material sciences. The System for Earth Sample Registration (SESAR), the organization that issues IGSNs in the United States, is interested in adding features that facilitate persistent identification of a wider variety of samples. Join us for an open discussion with the Director of SESAR, Kerstin Lehnert, on the use of IGSNs as persistent identifiers for a broad range of materials samples at the MagLab and beyond.
